It is an island located between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, east of the Dominican Republic. (about 1,000 miles (1,600 km) southeast of Miami, Florida).

Population: Approximately 3,916,632

Goverment: Commonwealth (US territory)

Currency code: US currency

Nationality: US citizens

Capital: San Juan (founded in 1508, by Juan Ponce de León).

Major Cities:
 San Juan, Ponce, Caguas, Mayagüez, Bayamón, Carolina, Arecibo, Guaynabo, Cayey, Aguadilla, and Fajardo.

Time: Atlantic Standard (AST)

Language: Spanish and English are the official languages, but Spanish is without a doubt the dominant language. English is spoken in all major tourist areas (%80 Spanish, %20 other).

Borders:
Puerto Rico is under the U.S. customs jurisdiction. Borders are open between P.R. and the U.S., allowing for free movement of people and merchandise.
